Overview

The Director-Senior Director, New Product Planning (NPP) will report to the Chief Business Officer and work across multiple program teams to provide leadership and strategic direction on products moving from pre-clinical stages through clinical development and into launch and commercialization. The NPP leader is expected to work with internal stakeholders to drive and integrate cross-functional inputs into Target Product Profiles (TPP) for each product in our clinical-stage portfolio. This role will provide competitive intelligence and strategic insight to help inform portfolio planning and business decision-making aligned with Ocular’s mission and therapeutic areas of focus in ophthalmology.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with all relevant functions, including senior executives at Ocular to develop detailed, insightful, and differentiated TPPs.
  • Provide commercial insights to each product development team in order to inform and guide the ongoing development of Ocular’s clinical-stage portfolio.
  • Lead market research & forecasting activities across the company’s development portfolio.
  • Establish aligned position on new indications in coordination with R&D/Clinical Development in order to guide proactive internal business & Corporate Development efforts.
  • Serve as the commercial evaluation function for in-licensing candidates under review.
  • Execute work and research needed to answer key questions for regulatory pathways.
  • Partner with Medical Affairs and strategy consultants to obtain KOL insights and feedback relevant for Commercial inputs and decision-making.
  • Support Senior Leadership Team decisions with information on the external landscape in key indications.
  • As Ocular’s pipeline advances, NPP leader will execute early-stage efforts that feed into traditional Commercial activities (early sales and marketing efforts).

Qualifications

The preferred individual is self-motivated, detail-oriented and exhibits strength in the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects simultaneously. The individual must work effectively within an organization and demonstrate reliability, responsiveness and a relentless focus on Ocular’s mission. We are particularly interested in individuals who possess exceptional oral and written communication skills, advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, and a track record of success in New Product Planning.

  • 10-15+ years of related experience required in the biopharmaceutical industry. Experience in new product planning, marketing, and commercial strategy is essential.
  • Advanced degree in business, science or related discipline preferred (MBA, Ph.D., Pharm. D., O.D., M.D.).
  • Expertise in ophthalmology, particularly in retinal indications, and demonstrated ability to understand and translate clinical/scientific information is highly desired.
  • Deep understanding of payment and reimbursement issues, especially relating to public (e.g. Medicare), private, and managed care payment dynamics in the United States.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies based on trends and opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry and the overall health care environment.
  • Ability to engage credibly with internal and external stakeholders around scientific clinical, and patient care issues.
  • A strong business orientation and the ability to view issues from multiple functional perspectives.
  • Proven track record in developing effective asset strategies and deliverables.
  • Experience working collaboratively and cross-functionally with a broad range of disciplines in clinical development, medical affairs, business development, regulatory, research & development, manufacturing, commercial, finance, and legal.
  • Some domestic & international travel required.  Candidate must be willing and able to travel.
