Scientist / Engineer I - R&D

Scientist/Engineer to execute drug development project activities for hydrogel-based drug product candidates. The role includes, but is not limited to, formulation and process development, product design and evaluation, and manufacture of preclinical study material. This individual will execute assigned project activities and work with project team members to develop drug products.

Critical areas of focus will be hands-on formulation of hydrogel-based implants for sustained delivery, data generation and analysis, characterization, process development, and non-GMP manufacturing of prototypes for assessment in in vitro and in vivo studies.

• Assist in the design, execution, and documentation of formulation and process development studies for novel sustained release drug products, with a focus on biotherapeutic drug delivery
• Analyze and evaluate the impact of formulation and process variables on drug product characteristics
• Manufacture of early R&D biotherapeutic products to support studies, including but not limited to pre-clinical work
• Communicate study design, project status, data analysis and program plan to project team members including management
• Assist in developing plans for research projects or product development programs in conjunction with the project team.

• Provide general support to R&D laboratory operations and safety practices.
• Collaborate effectively with the R&D group and project team members

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry or related discipline.
• 0-2 years of industry experience in medical device or pharmaceutical research and development
• Experience with drug delivery and formulations preferred
• Experience working in sterile/aseptic conditions a plus
• Demonstrated ability to apply strong fundamental scientific and engineering skills to evaluation of processes and development of practical solutions to technical challenges
• A hard-working, passionate about science, team player that can effectively collaborate in a dynamic, cross-functional matrix environment
• Knowledge of statistical methods and design of experiments methodology
• Knowledge of safe laboratory practices
