Corporate Controller

Position Summary:

This highly visible role is responsible for the accounting, audit, financial reporting and compliance processes. The Controller is a key member of the Finance team and interfaces regularly with the Company senior leadership and audit partners. In this public company, you will direct the accounting team and ensure monthly and quarterly deadlines are met. The Controller must be able to effectively partner with other senior members of the finance team and possess superior people management skills to develop staff and encourage the team’s growth by providing regular performance feedback and including staff in planning, decision-making and establishing an expectation of continuous process improvement.  This position reports to the CFO.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

• Oversee a timely and high-quality monthly financial close and reporting process including general accounting, revenue recognition, clinical trials accruals, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cash management.
• Ensure financial results are presented consistently, accurately and meet all compliance standards including US GAAP.
• Support Corporate decision making by ensuring key drivers of business performance are monitored, reported and understood.
• Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing financial policies and procedures.
• Coordinate and lead the annual external audit and SOX process.
• Drive process improvements throughout the department to maximize efficiency.
• Lead and develop the Accounting team to ensure that we provide a workplace where ideas are sought, considered and implemented to drive compliance and efficiencies.
• Responsible for recruiting, training and evaluating staff.
• Research and conclude on new and proposed accounting, reporting and disclosure standards through positioning papers.

Cost Accounting:

• Partner with Finance and Operations regarding key accounting, analysis and reporting to ensure an appropriate level of analysis and understanding of manufacturing costs.

Qualification Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or Finance, Master’s degree preferred.  CPA required.
• 10+ years of relevant Accounting experience, including previous public accounting expertise with a solid understanding of US GAAP.
• Strong working knowledge in general ledger, revenue recognition, clinical trials, accounts payable and accounts receivable. Must understand accounting and finance principles as applied to manufacturing: absorption, manufacturing variances, cost accounting.
• Previous experience directing and motivating a team.
• Extremely organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously ensuring business deadlines and demands are met in a timely manner.
• Able to partner closely with other senior members of the accounting and finance group; effectively and proactively communicates essential information with all levels of the organization.
• Adept at analyzing and interpreting data to establish performance indicators and areas for continuous improvement.
• Confidentiality and discretion required.
• Highly skilled in Microsoft Office products.
• Previous ERP experience strongly preferred.
• Previous experience in the life science and/or biotech sectors strongly preferred.
