  • Overview

    The Associate Director, Field Medical Affairs will be a key member of the Medical Leadership Team. This individual will partner with the Strategy Head and lead the execution of Medical Affairs strategy, including Field Medical Affairs, external stakeholder management, and evidence generation. Ocular Therapeutix will require a creative thinking, visionary, collaborative and curious individual to lead the Field Medical Affairs function.

    The position will be an integral part of the medical leadership for Corporate and Field Medical Affairs team and the planning and execution of critical Medical Affairs activities. He/she will be responsible for finding and leading the Field Medical Science Liaison team, development and maintenance of relationships with an identified set of national key opinion leaders and providing medical counsel on clinical development and life cycle planning activities. This role will be responsible for leading the development of both strategic and tactical plans to engage scientific thought leaders and community physicians and will be responsible for recruiting and developing a highly-experienced and engaged team of MSLs. He/she will also be an active participant in Medical Affairs team leadership and alignment.





    • Recruit and develop a strong and collaborative team of Medical Science Liaisons with surgical ophthalmology experience to support Ocular marketed and pipeline products
    • Participate as a senior leader in the Medical Affairs organization to broadly influence the Medical Affairs strategy by participating in the following internal discussions and committees:
      • Medical Community Engagement Strategy
      • Data and Evidence Generation Strategy
      • Data and Evidence Dissemination Strategy
      • Insight Collection
      • Business Development Diligence Support
      • Medical and Clinical Training
    • Establish a strategy, objectives and key processes for the MSL team that are aligned to the overall business strategy
    • Set and measure Key Performance Indicators for MSL team
    • Assist Clinical Operations in developing and executing clinical programs
    • Collaborate with Medical Affairs Strategy and Operations Lead to support the development and execution of the Medical Affairs strategy and plan
    • Support MSL team in the development and execution of KOL engagement plans
    • Oversee MSL training and execution

                External Stakeholder Engagement

    • Develop and execute national and regional KOL engagement plans
    • Engage with national-level external stakeholders to provide scientific and medical perspective
    • Deliver high quality presentation of scientific and medical data to healthcare professionals in identified settings
    • Drive education and awareness of Ocular Therapeutix, the hydrogel platform, and pipeline
    • Support data generation strategy and external research
    • Consolidate field team insight on assets and the technology and develop action-oriented plans in collaboration with brand team

               Compliant Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Provide medical counsel and guidance to cross-functional teams medical input and expertise for other functions
    • Support the market access strategy through delivery of medical content and exchange with stakeholders
    • Support the execution of congress plans and MSL activities in collaboration with other internal functions
    • Provide updates to company leadership and internal stakeholders on field medical affairs related plans and metrics


    • Demonstrate the values of Ocular Therapeutix
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Oversee a team of field based MSLs and external vendors for identified projects


    • Advanced degree with health science background (PharmD, MD, PhD, or OD) preferred
    • 5+ years’ experience in Medical Affairs or related fields
    • Experience in the ophthalmic pharmaceutical space preferred, but not required
    • People management experience preferred
    • Knowledge and understanding of the pharmaceutical commercialization process and data generation required
