Overview

 

Ocular Therapeutix is creating a new project management function.  The incumbent will provide strategic and tactical leadership to the Company’s project teams and will work closely with senior management to coordinate planning and resourcing efforts.  This role will be central in educating and training personnel about project management tools and methods to optimize the product development lifecycle.  The individual will have significant communication and interactions with senior management.

Responsibilities

Principal Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Lead project teams, either directly or through mentoring of others
  • Establish team objectives based on corporate and functional area goals, drive decision making and track cross-functional progress toward objectives
  • Establish and maintain integrated cross-project plans to enable accurate project, financial and portfolio analyses
  • Oversee and provide support/advice to cross-functional project teams
  • Develop and maintain the long-term plan for development programs
  • Help drive a culture of achievement and accountability within project teams
  • Play leadership role in managing cross-company alliances
  • Assist with financial budgeting and forecasting process
  • Seek out and mentor project management expertise within Ocular
  • Provide training to teams and company personnel about team effectiveness and the use of project management to enhance project planning, oversight and completion
  • Remain current with drug development approaches in the U.S. and internationally, and advise teams about alternative development possibilities
  • Hire additional staff, as appropriate. Train and mentor project management staff

  

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

  • Direct management of project management staff
  • Indirect management of Ocular staff in roles requiring project management expertise

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biopharma or related field. Advanced degree in related area preferred

 

Experience:

  • 10 years industry experience with 5+ years of project management/leadership roles
  • Experience in drug development from preclinical to post-approval stages
  • Strong familiarity with CMC/manufacturing development stages and processes
  • Prior involvement with cross-functional management and inter-company alliances

 

Knowledge/Skill:

  • Strategic thinker, able to integrate complex business considerations in developing project development approach
  • Strong ability to drive strategic objectives through operational execution
  • Strong management and interpersonal/communication skills. Prior success in working effectively with senior scientific, medical, commercial and operations staff
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence without authority, motivate with enthusiasm and develop productive working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Able to work effectively across all levels of the organization, including executive management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Project

  

Working Conditions

 

  • Mostly office-based, with up to 10% domestic and some international travel
